In an effort to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Cambodia, EMCAST Inc. has partnered with the National Institute of Education (NIE), with the strong support of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports. This collaboration aims to improve the professional development of teachers through the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program, specifically targeting secondary school instructors in the fields of Mathematics, Science, and Information Technology. The program, named STEPUP, seeks to provide teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to better engage students and promote a future-ready curriculum.

The STEPUP CPD project has three main objectives. First, the initiative aims to recruit qualified teachers to participate in the program, ensuring that a dedicated group of educators is equipped to drive meaningful changes in the classroom. Secondly, the project focuses on enhancing literacy skills, particularly in the context of the 21st-century curriculum and digital education. This aspect is crucial as it aligns with the growing need for students to develop digital literacy, which is essential in today’s technology-driven world. Finally, the project seeks to promote ongoing professional development for teachers in the STEM fields. By providing teachers with continuous opportunities for learning and growth, the program ensures that they remain up-to-date with the latest educational trends and innovations.

Once the teachers complete the training, they will play a vital role in supporting their colleagues across Cambodia. The trained teachers will offer guidance and share their knowledge with fellow educators in approximately 259 target schools throughout the country during the 2025-2026 school years. This peer-to-peer support network is expected to create a ripple effect, spreading the benefits of the training and strengthening STEM education across the nation. In conclusion, the STEPUP CPD project represents a significant step forward in improving STEM education in Cambodia. By investing in the professional development of teachers, EMCAST Inc., NIE, and the Ministry of Education are not only enhancing the capabilities of individual educators but also laying the foundation for a more skilled and knowledgeable future generation of students. Through this initiative, the collaboration aims to equip teachers with the tools they need to foster a dynamic, forward-thinking educational environment, ultimately preparing students to succeed in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
