We are thrilled to share the journey of our CPD Stage 3 Workshop, held from January 6th to January 9th. Every evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Cambodia Time), 175 dedicated STEM Ambassadors joined each session to create a lasting impact on Cambodian education.
The STEM Ambassadors led insightful presentations on these core themes:
- Day 1: Mind Map teaching strategies and techniques.
- Day 2: Problem-based learning.
- Day 3: Think-Pair-Share and educational games.
- Day 4: Implementing STEM classrooms and Project-based learning.
💡Real Conversations, Real Insights
The true heart of this workshop has been the lively exchange of ideas during our Q&A sessions. Rather than sticking to theory, our STEM Ambassadors brought real classroom challenges to the table, leading to some powerful “Aha!” moments:
“Can Mind Maps really work for every subject and grade?” Many teachers wondered if mind maps were only for starting a lesson or if they could handle “tough” subjects like Math.
⇨ Mind maps are incredibly flexible! They work for any content at any stage of the lesson. For younger students, keep it simple by using familiar images like animals from around their home or school. Using these stimulates the brain, making memory much stronger than just reading text.
“How do we bring our lesson plans into the modern era?” The discussion shifted to the 5E Model(engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate) and integrate technology without feeling overwhelmed.
⇨ We explored using simple tools and search activities to help students lead their own learning. Also, when it comes to adding PISA-style questions, teachers were encouraged to use MoEYS samples and adapt the quantity based on the specific lesson and their students’ needs.
There is no single ‘perfect’ way to teach every student. Whether you prefer traditional methods or newer educational terms, the most effective approach is to follow the MoEYS guidelines while remaining a flexible, lifelong learner who adapts to the needs of the classroom.
📢Don’t Miss the last day of the workshop!
Today is our final day(January 9th)! We will wrap up this inspiring week by focusing on Implementing STEM Classrooms and Project-Based Learning.
