From March 16 to 20, 2025, the STEP UP CPD project organized the closing ceremony of the Core Trainer training program, a key initiative to strengthen teachers’ capacity to deliver STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) across Cambodia. The event took place in Kampong Speu Province and saw participation from core trainers, project managers, national and international advisors, and representatives from EMCAST.
The STEP UP CPD project seeks to train core trainers to become pivotal leaders in disseminating modern teaching knowledge and techniques to STEM educators in schools nationwide. During this training program, the core trainers were equipped with theoretical and practical skills, emphasizing innovative teaching methods and technology integration in education. This training not only enhances the quality of instruction but also fosters a collaborative network among teachers throughout the country.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. Thai Heng, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Education, delivered remarks underscoring the importance of continuous professional development for teachers to meet the demands of the 21st century. He praised the dedication of the core trainers, who actively participated and demonstrated impressive capabilities in applying newly acquired knowledge. The program concluded with the awarding of certificates to the core trainers who completed the training.
The STEP UP CPD project will continue to play a vital role in supporting the development of Cambodia’s education system, with a focus on advancing STEM skills as a foundation for innovation and global competitiveness. This initiative represents yet another step toward realizing Cambodia’s vision of building a high-quality, sustainable human resource base.
